Initial Thoughts:

I never thought I'd be watching so many movies at home and paying for them! Yes I know it supports the industry more now than ever to pay for movies, my point is after about a year of COVID we continue to live in strange times. I probably never would have seen this in theatres but with money still on my Cineplex account, I decided to give it a try. I do enjoy Vince Vaughn in most things he does (and horror movies).

Main Points:

I'll say right away this movie is cheesy as hell, but that's the point of it. It reminds you of the "Scary Movies" in that it brutally pokes fun at almost every horror movie you have ever seen (with particular emphasis on those from the late 80s-to early 00's). The difference between this movie doesn't pull punches there are some genuinely gory scenes that I thought skirt the limit (or maybe I'm just getting old and can't handle gore like a used to!).

Vince Vaughn is obviously having a lot of fun with this role and there are some genuinely funny moments along with some really creepy ones. I'll also give props (as the cool kids say!) to Kathryn Newton, who I haven't seen in much but she is also excellent in this with two very different roles to play.

The movie is certainly not Oscar-worthy (though with the selection this year who knows!) but I had fun watching it and it is just the right length at just 142 minutes.

Final Thoughts:

Please don't let your children watch this, language, blood, gore and sexual situations make it ages 18+. I'm not sure why it only gets 6 out of 10. I give it a solid 7.5 out of 10 and would recommend it to any horror fan who doesn't mind the classics poked fun at and gore that goes a little too far in a couple of scenes. It was better than I thought it would be and did everything you'd expect from a typical horror movie, plus of course, you're stuck home, what else are you gonna do?
