Details from IMDB:

Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Eddie Brock attempts to reignite his career by interviewing serial killer Cletus Kasady, who becomes the host of the symbiote Carnage and escapes prison after a failed execution.

Initial Thoughts:

Once more full disclosure, I hadn’t planned to watch this movie, but I was on a plane (a long flight too, over 3 hours) and it was on the Air Canada iPad they gave me, so I watched it (I had seen the first one, so I certainly knew the character).

Main Points:

I like Venom, but I am only the most casual fan. I have read some comics but mainly I just know him as the symbiote suit Spider-Man wore in the 80s (and as mentioned I had seen part 1). I also like Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson but both are largely wasted here.

It’s a shame because Venom can be a fun character, despite his alien nature (and the fact that he likes to eat brains) he does have some humor but this only comes out a few times. The biggest issue here is that the story is so light and so poorly done (same with dialogue, some is just cringeworthy!) that’s there’s nothing the actors can do to rise above it.

Yes there are some parts that made me laugh (or at least chuckle) and a few of the fight scenes did look cool but it’s overall a very disappointing movie and a step below part 1.

Final Thoughts:

Stay until the end (if you can manage it) for 2 post-credit scenes (they are ok). I can only give this 5.5 out of 10 (gave part 1 a 7) as it’s barely watchable. Unless you are a huge Venom fan, I’d say skip it, it made money so I’d bet there will be a part 3. Lots of violence and coarse language, ages 16+, please don’t let your children watch this. I really can’t recommend this movie, to be honest, I’m sure you could find something better to watch, like Movie Review: Spider-Man: No Way Home, it’s an amazing movie!
