Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Dr. Stephen Strange casts a forbidden spell that opens the doorway to the multiverse, including alternate versions of himself, whose threat to humanity is too great for the combined forces of Strange, Wong, and Wanda Maximoff.

Initial Thoughts:

I say it all the time and I'll say it again, it is a WONDERFUL time to be a geek! Really it has been for about 10+ years but I'd argue the past 3-4 have really seen a deluge of wonderful stuff for me to consume. There was never a doubt in my mind I'd see this movie, while Marvel/Disney isn't perfect (*Movie Review: Eternals*cough*), I trust them to always make something enjoyable for me to see. So with this opening Friday I waited until Saturday (as I prefer matinees, fewer people, still have lots of the day to yourself afterward), got high, and went to see it.

Maint Points:

I'll add right away this is a SPOILER FILLED REVIEW! It's my blog, that's how I roll, stop reading now if you don't want to know what happens.

I'd also like to add if you live in a place where pot is legal (and you're of legal age) I'd recommend getting a medium-high to watch this (that's different for everyone, for me about 10-12 mg of THC) as the 3D scenes are WAY better high.

Acting in this was excellent with everyone throughout. Olsen was amazing as Scarlet Witch and gave us a great preview of Dark Phoenix . Cumberbatch is perfect as Dr. Strange, Disney/Marvel do an amazing job with casting. I really enjoyed Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez and of course the surprises! I was careful not to read too much/watch all the previews so I was THRILLED to see a live-action Captain Carter, evil/super-powered up Strange, who I'm fairly certain will be the new Enchantress, an alternate universe Captain Marvel, Black Bolt and of course finally in the MCU Mr. Fantastic! While I knew that Patrick Stewart Professor X was coming, I still enjoyed it tremendously.

The action scenes are top-notch as are the special effects. I saw it in 3D IMAX (no Screen X near me) and seeing some of these scenes when you’re high and 3D, SUPER TRIPPY AND A TON OF FUN! Marvel continues to reward the loyal fans with plenty of cameos/surprises and of course, stay till the end for 2 post-credit scenes. This movie is really not for kids (there were a few there when I saw it) and I’m happy to see the movies get just a little bit darker/mature/gory, it fits in great with the story.

Final Thoughts:

Overall I don’t see what anyone is complaining about, while it’s not the best Marvel (or Sony Marvel) movie ever, I’d put it right up there with some of them and would highly recommend it. 8.5 out of 10 from me. I'd put in a little above Movie Review: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings but below Movie Review: Avengers: Endgame. Marvel is showing they can do more grown-up stories as I think it's fair to say most fans are in at least their 30s with an even higher percentage being in the 40s (and up). For a movie with an over 2-hour runtime I didn't find it dragged at all, in fact, I could have seen more and felt the pacing was really good. My wife didn’t get much out of it but she hasn’t seen all the Marvel movies/shows. This is very rewarding for the more hard-core fans and that’s me! Do yourself a favor, if you've even a casual Marvel go see this movie, you won't regret it.
