Movie Review: Thor: Love & Thunder

July 12, 2022

Details from IMDB:

Thor: Love and Thunder

Thor enlists the help of Valkyrie, Korg and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster to fight Gorr the God Butcher, who intends to make the gods extinct.

Initial Thoughts:

As you've noticed I've become more honest/forthright with these reviews so I'll say right off, that I don't know why people don't like this movie (well I do have an idea, a lot of them are sexist jerks). 7 out of 10 is too low a rating! But I'm ahead of myself, I LOVED Thor: Ragnarock, and I enjoy anything Taika Waititi does, so of course, I went and saw it opening weekend.

Main Thoughts:

I honestly don't know why people are complaining about this movie, I thought it was excellent! I LOVED the music, when was the last time you heard 4 G'N'R songs, plus Enya and Abba? NEVER! Chris Helmsworth was obviously having a blast, as was Natalie Portman and everyone else (there are LOTS of cameos here and I loved them all!).

Christain Bale did a great job as a fairly relatable villain and of course, Taki Waititi is hilarious and heartwarming as Korg who this time also takes on a role of narrator as well.

So much color, great special effects, great action, and a (mostly) fun story, what else could you ask for? It's a Thor movie I say to people who are upset/disappointed to LIGHTEN UP WHILE YOU STILL CAN! I thought the movie had heart and yes there are some serious/touching moments.

Russell Crowe is FUNNY (not something I say very often) in a role that is supposed to be ridiculous. Thor gets a good bit of development and I thought the ending left the door open for part 5 (which I'm sure we'll get) and more fun adventures.

Final Thoughts:

I could have watched more. I read a comment that this could have been a TV show and I agree, I would have loved to have seen more planets and more time between Thor and the Guardians (that's in the trailer, not a spoiler). I give it a solid 8 out of 10 and highly recommend it. Please don't bring your kids though, ages 13+ for some violence, brief nudity, and coarse language. Do bring an open mind and remember what summer movies are meant to be FUN! I wish I had been high when I saw it, I'm sure I would have enjoyed it even more. Stay until the end for 2 post-credit scenes (they are worth it!). No complaints from me about what Marvel is doing in Phase 4, it will be about Gods, the multiverse and a whole lot of action and fun, that's all I need!
