I've always liked Brad Pitt, in fact, he's been in some of my favorite movies like "Fight Club", "Inglorious Basterds" and of course his Oscar-winning role in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood", suffice it to say when I saw the preview for this I was in. The movie looked like fun, it's a summer action/comedy popcorn flick, bring it on!
This is a fun movie with heart and even a little wisdom thrown in. As soon as they started playing a Japanese version of "Stayin' Alive" I was in! Brad Pitt (along with all of the actors) are having fun and putting in good performances. The movie reminds me of "Kill Bill" with bits of "Pulp Fiction" and even "Weekend at Bernie's" thrown in. It has great dialogue, awesome fight scenes, and plenty of over-the-top/fun scenes, plus I was laughing throughout.
There are a couple of good twists and turns in the story, very dynamic fight scenes, and (from what I know) a fair bit of Japanese culture is also shown. It's also nice to see Pitt in a comedy as a reluctant/unlucky hero, it's a different kind of role for him and he does it well.
As always if you take this movie seriously, pick it apart, you won't enjoy it. My advice? If you're of legal age (and can get it legally) get high, take an Uber (or get someone else to drive) and let me the movie was over you, it's what I did!
It is a neat piece of trivia that David Leitch (the director) was Brad Pitt's stunt double in "Fight Club"! I was hoping for a "Fight Club" reference but no such luck. I would also say for an action/comedy movie it does run a little long, taking out 15-20 minutes would have made for a better experience. Overall I enjoyed it and would recommend it for ages 18+plus, lots of gore, violence, and coarse language. Please don't bring your kids to this. I give it 7/10 and would recommend it to anyone looking for fun at the movies that doesn't mind some gore.
