Movie Review: The House with a Clock in Its Walls
I’ll be upfront right away, I didn’t have any interest in this. We were in Corner Brook and it was a choice between this or Smallfoot, we both wanted something a little more adult, so we chose this. Plus I’ve always enjoyed dinner and a movie, so we made it a date night.
I’ll give credit where credit is due, Jack Black and Cate Blanchett due there best. Both of them good, in the limited roles they have to play. The movie has some good special effects. It’s not that the story is terrible, it’s just very predicable (aside from one minor surprise) and paint by numbers kind of deal.
I never read the book and while the movie is certainly not appropriate for young kids (I’d say ages 10+), I still felt too old to get the full enjoyment. I’ll say at least I didn’t find it dragged and wasn’t bored when it ended.
