Initial Thoughts:

I'm not a huge anime fan, in fact I've never seen anything Alita before I saw this movie. Still though, the previews made it look fun and it was produced by James Cameron. It also has a solid cast and my friend also wanted to go, so I went.

Main Points:

I'll start with the good, pretty solid acting throughout. Mahershala Ali is an amazing actor, while he doesn't have a big part here, he makes the movie better just being onscreen. The special effects are  excellent (see in 3D or IMAX 3D if you can) and it's interesting world.

I was never bored but that wasn't really a good thing as I get into what I didn't like. I felt that this movie jammed way too much into it's 2 hour running time. The characters never get a chance to develop, Alita's cool backstory is never explored properly and ultimately the ending is mostly predicable and not satisfying.

Final Thoughts:

This would have been so much better if it had been spread over 2 films, instead we end up with a jumbled mess that is still some fun to watch but loses a lot of its potential. Please don't bring kids to this, lots of violence and even a few disturbing scenes make this ages 14+ I'd say. If you've already seen Captain Marvel (review for that soon!) and can into this cheap I'd give it a mild recommendation and just 6.5 out of 10.
