Initial Thoughts:

I have had an interest in sex for a long time, since I was 12 or so, and I think it’s an essential (and endlessly fascinating) part of being a human. A while back, I found this podcast called “Strictly Anonymous Confessions.” It’s exactly like it sounds, people call in and talk about sex, usually very kinky/risque/wild/non-vanilla stuff that most people never experience, so it’s usually very good/exciting. Kathy, the person who runs the podcast/does the interviews, put out a book last year, and I like to support small/indie authors. I bought it (plus it gave me free access to the Discord group, which is a nice bonus).

Main Points:

Let’s make it clear this book deals with very explicit material and is certainly not for kids, ages 19+. Honestly, I have read more explicit books (Submit for one) but not one quite like this. It’s a collection of 17 interviews from the podcast that have been turned into true stories, kind of like the old Penthouse forum letters (which were often fake, I think). While I liked the format, she puts all of the sex terms used in the book, like “thrupple” and “airtight,” upfront and at the end of each chapter, the episodes are referenced so you can listen to them. I found the quality of the stories uneven. Sometimes she’s short on the graphic details (which I wanted, and I think most people would), and I think a little poetic license would have helped. I also thought one chapter was on the short side (needed more details) and another was too long, and I started to lose interest.

To be fair, the book tries hard to have a wide variety of sexual situations, kinks, fetishes, and people, and while all the stories were interesting, I just wasn’t turned on by all of them (which is to be expected). That said, about half the stories did get me going (at least for parts of it), which is one of the reasons I got it.

Final Thoughts:

A good first effort from Kathy Kay, I would certainly pick up a sequel, and I was glad to hear she is doing this one as an audiobook. I give it 7.5 out of 10 and would recommend it to anyone who isn’t a prude and enjoys reading a book about sex and human behaviour. There are a couple of times where Kathy inserts a note about dangerous activities and following a doctor’s advice, which I thought were very smart. Check out her podcast too, well worth a listen!

  • "Charles O’Keefe’s descriptions immediately pulled me in and made the characters relatable. Starting with a strong hook—when Joseph realizes he’s finally met the woman of his dreams (Casandra)—the plot stays steadily exciting throughout.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants an exciting new read, and a great escape from reality."
