Initial Thoughts:

Ghostbusters is a part of my childhood, so the nostalgia factor runs deep here. So while it was certain I would see this, once I saw reviews I was not in a rush and decided not to bother with seeing it in IMAX. I like the mix of old and new cast and the previews did make it look like a good idea.

Main Points:

This movie does a strange thing as it leans hard into nostalgia on the one hand and then introduces new characters and tries to give all of them something to do, the result is neither story works well. I’ll go with some positive, the special effects are good, there are some solid laughs and it was nice to see the old firehall in use again. The actors do the best they can, but with such limited screen-time the result is a rushed jumble that is unfortunately one of the less than stellar entries in the franchise.

Final Thoughts:

If you’re a big Ghostbusters fan I would give this a mild recommendation but at this point it’s just as well to wait for streaming/digital release. I noticed young kids in the theatre when I saw it and I don’t think that’s a good idea, ages 13+ for violence, mild gore and some suggestive dialogue. As much as I have enjoyed Ghostbusters this really should be the end, perhaps it may be for me anyway unless they come up with a really unique idea. I give it a 6.5 out of 10, it’s just mediocre and forgettable, which is not what a Ghostbusters movie should be.

  • "Charles O’Keefe’s descriptions immediately pulled me in and made the characters relatable. Starting with a strong hook—when Joseph realizes he’s finally met the woman of his dreams (Casandra)—the plot stays steadily exciting throughout.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants an exciting new read, and a great escape from reality."
