Initial Thoughts:
Being home for 6 days straight, I’ll admit I got a little bored/stir-crazy, so as I had seen the third one of this series, I figured I’d go back and see the first. Also, anyone who reads this blog knows I have always been fascinated with sex and nudity; it’s an essential part of being human, and I think it’s wonderful when people can have no shame over their bodies and show them to other people. All this meant last night, I watched this on Tubi.
Main Points:
The film follows around 5 women who are exotic dancers, among other things, and gives an uncensored look into their lives. All of them are interesting people who are much more than just exotic dancers; some of them have experienced terrible traumas and have overcome them. I like it when one woman responded to the most common question, of “where you abused and now messed up, which led you to porn and exotic dancing?” and she just replied that “no, I’m just really slutty!” There are a few light-hearted moments, but it’s mostly a serious look at how these women navigate their lives and embrace their true selves. I think at least one of these women needs counselling/therapy, not for her life choices, but just to deal with all the terrible stuff in her past, but that is not shown in the film.
Final Thoughts:
This was a good idea for a documentary, but it’s poorly edited, and the production values are low, which makes it look amateurish. I can only give it 6 out of 10 and a minor recommendation. Obviously ages 19+ as there is a ton of nudity, lots of coarse language, mature content and drug use (all weed that I could tell). One plus is that it’s quite short at less than 1.5 hours.
