Initial Thoughts:
I’ll start out with some truth, I’m not a Swiftie, at least not the way that group is usually thought of. Taylor Swift is very talented and I have grown to like her music (much more so in the past 8-10 years) now that she has moved away from the country genre. She has become a better songwriter and performer as well. So while I wasn’t thrilled at the thought of seeing this with a load of screaming tweens, we did go to a later show and I hadn’t seen a concert film in theaters in quite a while, so I was looking forward to it.
Main Points:
Taylor puts on a great show, the setup is amazing, with great dancers, excellent backup singers, a cool light show, fireworks, awesome CGI, and effects, it is really something to behold. She sounds great and her dance moves are the best they have ever been. I also appreciated how Taylor swears in several songs and has some sensual/suggestive content and moves. She is very friendly with the crowd and I thought it was very nice of her to give Kobe Bryant’s daughter, Natallia, a kiss and her hat during the show. She does a lot of her hits (from all of her different albums) and I think does the best with “All Too Well.”
Final Thoughts:
My only negative thing to say about this is that if you’re not a huge Taylor Fan the almost 3 hour run time can feel a little long, I know this is with her intentionally cutting out songs so people who go to see her live still have some surprises. That and there were people with their phone lights on for a while right in front of us (which in this unusual circumstance was allowed, just still annoying). If you like Taylor and even if you don’t, for anyone who enjoys a concert film with a pop superstar, it’s worth going to see this. I would suggest waiting a while perhaps so it could be just adults there. I will also add that it was a nice/unique experience to see people up and dancing at the front of the theatre and one person even giving out friendship bracelets. A solid 8 out of 10 from me and a recommendation to anyone 13 and up.
