Posted on May 13, 2024 by Char1es0keefe_1

Details from IMDB:

The Fall Guy

  • 2024
  • PG-13
  • 2h 6m

A down-and-out stuntman must find the missing star of his ex-girlfriend’s blockbuster film.

  • Director
    • David Leitch
  • Writers
    • Drew Pearce
    • Glen A. Larson
  • Stars
    • Ryan Gosling
    • Emily Blunt
    • Aaron Taylor-Johnson

Initial Thoughts:

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are both excellent actors (why neither has an Oscar is beyond me!) and I had heard good things about this movie. I never saw any of the original show but of course I know Lee Majors and also wanted to see if he would be in it. So we went to a matinee on Sunday and spent way too much on snacks!

Main Points:

I know I don't usually talk about snacks but I've got to say almost $50 for two people to get popcorn, drinks and 1 snack each is a ridiculous price. I don't know if all theatre chains are the same but I think it's a mistake to charge such an absorbent amount, it will discourage people to either see movies or at least buy snacks, ok off my soapbox. This was a fun movie with great music, amazing action scenes and a clear message, stunt people and all those who work behind the camera need to be recognized a lot more. There is a part in the movie where Colt's (Gosling) character is asked if stunt people can win a Oscar and he just says no, well there should be! Stunt people literally risk their lives for our entertainment and they should be celebrated more.

Despite all the pluses there are some minuses. I thought Hannah Waddington is mostly wasted here, there's just not much of a role for her to work with. I also thought that the movie is too long, action/comedies don't need to be 2+ hours and I think at least 20 minutes could have been shaved off. I did really enjoy the constant references to other movies, TV shows and of course the best stunts. I thought it was a great idea for the crew working on the movie, in the movie of course, to be the heroes. It is worth staying through the credits to see the real people involved with making this movie. The sheer chemistry with Blunt and Gosling make the movie better and there is a great part where her character does karaoke and you are reminded she is a really good singer too.

Final Thoughts:

Make sure to stay until the very end for an end credit scene, I won't spoil it but I think you'll be pleased. I also won't spoil who shows up at the end, though I will hint it's more than 1 actor. This is a nice feel good/action/comedy and I left with a smile on my face. I give it a solid 7.5 and a hearty recommendation. Sure it pulls punches but that makes it more marketable and of course you know it will have a happy ending. For movie buffs you will enjoy the insider talk/technical movie info as well. Ages 13+ due to some coarse language, mild violence and drug use.

  • "Charles O’Keefe’s descriptions immediately pulled me in and made the characters relatable. Starting with a strong hook—when Joseph realizes he’s finally met the woman of his dreams (Casandra)—the plot stays steadily exciting throughout.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants an exciting new read, and a great escape from reality."
