Initial Thoughts:
I’ve seen plenty of movies with Mark Wahlberg, he’s a good actor, the same goes Michelle Monaghan, so as we are getting a 3 month free trail of Apple TV+, which this is on, and my wife wanted to see it, we watched this Saturday night. I had also watched the trailer and it looked like a fun movie, especially when you’re a little stoned.
Main Points:
This is a very formulaic movie, that’s not a bad thing but it does mean there are very few surprises. As such I won’t bother with the plot, you know everything will work out at the end and the bad guys will get what’s coming to them. So really all that matters here are the performances, the actions scenes, and the amount of fun. I had fun with this movie and I think the actors did too. Good performances all around and there were plenty of times I was laughing and smiling. All that said this is a very forgettable movie that does drag at a few points.
Final Thoughts:
I will say one of the things that pleasantly surprised me is the use of the song “Only Time” by Enya! I can’t remember the last time I heard this song used in a movie, one of my favorites, and I did enjoy the campy fun that oozes from this movie. All that said I give it 6.5 out of 10 and a mild recommendation. It’s a pleasant enough two hours and I did like the feel good ending. Not for kids, ages 14+, it’s a good couples movies night and has teenagers that are less annoying that often portrayed onscreen.
