Initial Thoughts:

So this was from my list of raunchy comedies to watch, though at only PG-13 I would put it very low on the naughty scale. Still though it’s a comedy and I do enjoy Paul Rudd and Jason Segel, so last night I fired up Paramount+ (got stoned of course!) and gave this a watch.

Main Points:

As I thought Paul Rudd is fun as is Jason Segel. Rashida Jones also puts in an excellent performance, as done everyone in the film. There are some really funny laugh out loud moments here, watch for the fight between Sidney and Lou Ferrigno and a couple of other over the top but really funny moments. The film is careful not to ever show Sidney smoking weed but it’s very clear he does so I would say this is at least stoner comedy adjacent. As I’ve said before, I enjoy comedies more when I’m stoned so that makes the connection for me 🙂

The movie does rely too much on awkward humor, which often falls flat, and it is, you know what I’m going to say, 15-20 minutes too long. It ultimately becomes very predictable like so many comedies but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The music here is excellent, especially nice seeing the Canadian band Rush who haven’t been in a movie in a quite a while, and I didn’t mind the slower pace as a change from many comedies made today.

Final Thoughts:

As I often say, get plenty stoned and watch this, you’ll enjoy it more. Honestly if you ever watched “The Incredible Hulk” show from the 70’s you need to watch this, I was pleasantly surprised by how much Lou Ferrigno was in this and his acting was better than I expected. I can, however, only give it 7 out of 10, comedies aren’t supposed to drag and this did in a couple of spots. If you want a pleasant comedy for a date night, that may also get you to talk about oral sex afterwards, get stoned and watch it. There are very few movies which talk about male friendships and how life changes as you get older, so I liked that and would recommend it to anyone who likes Paul Rudd, Jason Segel and Rashida Jones. Not for young kids, ages 13+.

  • "Charles O’Keefe’s descriptions immediately pulled me in and made the characters relatable. Starting with a strong hook—when Joseph realizes he’s finally met the woman of his dreams (Casandra)—the plot stays steadily exciting throughout.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants an exciting new read, and a great escape from reality."
