Initial Thoughts:

I suppose it was a requirement for me to see this movie, I had heard this is one of the best stoner comedies and as I did want to get stoned and watch a comedy it was certainly a fitting choice. Also lately I pick a movie one week and my wife picks another, so even though she had seen this it was her pick and it was on Paramount+ so we gave it a watch.

Main Points:

I wanted to go out for a fire last night so I split this movie up into two viewings, not something I would normally do for a movie less than 1.5 hours, so that could be affecting my thoughts. That said parts of this movie are really funny! It’s mostly well acted and the story is ok, I mean it’s completely ridiculous but I guess that’s the point. It is worth watching just for Neil Patrick Harris, he was awesome in this! I will add that I watched an hour of this movie stoned and the last 25 or so minutes sober. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I was more stoned the whole time but that’s often the case for comedies. I found the encounters they have on the way to generally be funny but the in-between bits get slow and for such a short movie there was 1 point where I got a little bored.

Final Thoughts:

I thought the last 25 minutes was the best part of the movie, the ending is really good and of course there are two sequels. I liked how they got in a “Dude Where’s my Car?” reference and there were some good (and really strange) cameos. I was pleasantly surprised to see a Newfoundlander in here, Shaun Majumber! All of that said this was surprisingly low budget even with a ton of weed this will never be a classic, I give it 7.5 out of 10 as some parts are very funny. Please don’t let kids watch this, nudity, sexual situations, drugs, coarse language, some blood and violence makes it ages 18+. I should also add that there is lots of racial stereotypes/offensive slurs, so I could see people being offended. If you partake get really stoned and watch this, you’ll be laughing and quite possibly thinking about burgers/White Castle!

"Charles O’Keefe’s descriptions immediately pulled me in and made the characters relatable. Starting with a strong hook—when Joseph realizes he’s finally met the woman of his dreams (Casandra)—the plot stays steadily exciting throughout.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants an exciting new read, and a great escape from reality."
