Movie Review: Wolfs

Posted on November 24, 2024 by Char1es0keefe_1

Details from IMDB:

Two rival fixers cross paths when they’re both called in to help cover up a prominent New York official’s misstep. Over one explosive night, they’ll have to set aside their petty grievances and their egos to finish the job.

  • Director
    • Jon Watts
  • Writer
    • Jon Watts
  • Stars
    • George Clooney
    • Brad Pitt
    • Amy Ryan

A professional fixer is hired to cover up a high-profile crime. But when a second fixer shows up and the two “lone wolves” are forced to work together, they find their night spiraling out of control in ways that neither one of them expected.

Initial Thoughts:

George Clooney and Brad Pitt are two of my favorite actors, I am much more inclined to see a movie if even one of them are in, two and its a virtual guarantee. So with our free slightly longer than 3 month trial of Apple TV+, and Taskmaster done for the season, we watched this last night.

Main Points:

This movie was really funny and exactly the kind of humor I like, a little dark and often uncomfortable. George and Brad are having a lot of fun and you can tell they love working together. I was laughing within the first 10 minutes and I kept laughing for almost the entire movie. This is a film that has a lot of talking, that and the fact that they also call the cleaner in “Pulp Fiction” the wolf, reminded me of that movie, which I dearly love.

As usual I’m not doing a detailed review, I try to avoid spoilers and there are a couple of surprises here. Mostly, though, this is a straight forward plot with not a lot of action and a great ending which leaves room for a sequel. It is unfortunate that I just read today that this did not due well in theatres, it had a very small release, and the director said a sequel is very unlikely. I like how both George and Brad’s character never reveal their names, they are fixers and men of mystery and it made a lot sense.

Final Thoughts:

I’m not sure why people didn’t like this, I quite enjoyed it. Lots of laugh, some good action, a lot of great banter and a story with couple of twists and turns that while unusual, do make sense in the film. I very much enjoyed the idea that even a cleaner who works for the mob would eventually slow down and start to question their choices in life, we all do. I give it a solid 7.5 out of 10, I would have liked a little more in the plot and maybe a little more action but the laughs go a long way and Brad and George give some excellent performances. Not for kids, due to a lot of coarse language, some violence and blood along with mature themes, ages 18+. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes a dark comedy/crime movie and of course recognize how nice it is to see Brad and George in a movie together.

  • "Charles O’Keefe’s descriptions immediately pulled me in and made the characters relatable. Starting with a strong hook—when Joseph realizes he’s finally met the woman of his dreams (Casandra)—the plot stays steadily exciting throughout.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants an exciting new read, and a great escape from reality."
